What radiology is

Radiology is the medical specialty dedicated to imaging diagnostics: obtaining images of the inside of the body to assess and diagnose a wide range of medical conditions. At Rincón Salud we have a team of imaging specialists working with up-to-date technology to produce sharp, detailed images — the basis of a reliable diagnosis.

An accurate diagnosis is the first step of any treatment: it lets your doctor plan the right approach and objectively track how things progress.

Imaging tests we carry out

• X-rays: the basic test for assessing bones and joints, among other uses.
• Orthopantomograms: a panoramic X-ray of the mouth, commonly used in dental and maxillofacial assessments.
• Mammograms: the benchmark test for breast assessment.
• Diagnostic ultrasound: an examination using sound waves, with no radiation, to assess organs and soft tissue.

When an imaging test is requested

You'll usually come to radiology referred by the doctor or specialist handling your case. Some common reasons include:

• Investigating pain or an injury after a blow, a fall or overexertion.
• Confirming or following up a diagnosis that needs imaging to track progress .
• Assessments before dental or surgical treatment.
• Check-ups and monitoring requested by your doctor, such as regular breast screening.

What to expect when you come for a test

The images obtained are assessed by the specialist, and the result is given to the doctor who requested the test so they can explain the diagnosis and next steps.

When to book an appointment

If your doctor has requested an X-ray, an orthopantomogram, a mammogram or an ultrasound, you can book an appointment with our radiology service. And if you have a symptom that hasn't been investigated yet, it's best to start with a medical consultation to assess which test you need.
