Torre del Mar medical centre

The centre is in Torre del Mar, on Calle Manuel Azuaga, and occupies the ground floor of a building in the town centre. Inside it holds general practice and specialist consultations, the X-ray room, blood sampling for tests, the physiotherapy gym and the dental clinic's surgeries. It is a medical centre, not a single consulting room, and that is where almost everything else comes from.

Everything behind one door

A visit to the doctor rarely ends in the consulting room. It ends in «get a blood test», «we need an X-ray», «an orthopaedic specialist needs to see this» or «physiotherapy would do you good». When each of those things is in a different place, a twenty-minute consultation turns into three trips spread over three weeks.

Here the blood sample is taken along the same corridor, the X-ray in the room at the end and rehabilitation two doors further on. It is not just convenience: a diagnosis reached in days rather than weeks gets treated sooner.

What's inside

• Medical consultations. This is where almost everything starts: general practice, paediatrics, cardiology, dermatology, orthopaedics, ENT, psychology, nutrition… The full list, with what each one does, is on the specialties.
• X-ray. Its own room inside the centre, with its own X-ray equipment.
• Blood tests. Samples are taken here; patients do not have to find another building for a routine blood test.
• Physiotherapy and rehabilitation. A proper room, with treatment tables, equipment and exercise gear, not a corner with a couch.
• Paediatrics. Its own consulting room, with scales for babies, and a play area in the waiting room so the wait doesn't fall on the child.
• Gynaecology and ultrasound. An equipped consulting room, with examination chair and ultrasound scanner.
• Dentistry. The Rincón Dental surgeries are in this same building.
• Fertility. Rincón Fertilidad shares the entrance with the medical centre: its name is on the same façade.

From 1972 to today

This did not start with a business plan, it started with a practitioner. Manuel Rincón Béjar had spent more than thirty years treating the people of Torre del Mar, day and night, when in 1972 he opened his own clinic in the town. He died six years later and his son, Manuel Jesús Rincón Granados, took over, turning it into a company in 1993 and growing it to make up for the healthcare the town lacked at the time.

Half a century on, the size, the team and the equipment have all changed. The family name is still on the door and the practice is still in Torre del Mar.
