The ability to communicate and eat properly is essential to a full life. At Rincón Salud we have a speech and language therapy service at our three medical centres — Torre del Mar, Rincón de la Victoria and Málaga (La Rosaleda) — dedicated to preventing, assessing and treating disorders of communication, language, voice and oral-facial function. Our team works with patients of all ages — children, teenagers and adults — offering personalised solutions to improve their wellbeing and independence.

Speech therapist: specialist care for children and adults

Speech and language therapy is a healthcare discipline that goes far beyond «learning to talk». At our clinic, we approach each case from both a clinical and a human perspective, understanding that every difficulty calls for a different approach.

Our speech therapy service covers:

  • Speech and articulation disorders (dyslalia, stuttering).

  • Delayed language and literacy development.

  • Myofunctional therapy (atypical swallowing, mouth breathing).

  • Voice rehabilitation (dysphonia, nodules).

  • Communication difficulties in developmental disorders.

  • Speech therapy support for neurological conditions (aphasia).

At RincĂłn Salud, your speech therapist works hand in hand with other specialists (paediatricians, TMJ physiotherapists) to ensure comprehensive treatment.

Therapy in your language. Sessions can be held in Spanish, English, French and German, at any of the three centres where we see patients: MĂĄlaga (La Rosaleda), RincĂłn de la Victoria and Torre del Mar.

We offer a wide range of speech therapy treatments designed to correct and rehabilitate the communicative and physical functions of the oral-facial area.

Frequently asked questions

At what age is it advisable to take a child to a speech therapist?

There is no fixed age. If you notice that at 2 years old they are not saying simple words, or that at 4 they are hard to understand when speaking, that is the time for an assessment.

What is atypical swallowing and why does a speech therapist treat it?

It is the bad habit of pushing the teeth with the tongue when swallowing. The speech therapist retrains the muscles of the mouth to stop the teeth from shifting.

Do speech and language therapists only treat children?

No. We treat many adults for voice problems, the after-effects of strokes or swallowing difficulties resulting from age or surgery.

How long does speech and language therapy last?

It depends on the condition and on consistency. Some articulation problems are resolved within months, while other disorders require longer follow-up.

Which centres can I have speech therapy at?

Three: Torre del Mar medical centre, RincĂłn de la Victoria medical centre and MĂĄlaga medical centre (La Rosaleda). If you live in the AxarquĂa you do not need to travel to MĂĄlaga; and if the city or RincĂłn de la Victoria suits you better, you can have your therapy there instead.

Is a previous medical report necessary?

It is not compulsory, but if you have reports from your paediatrician or specialist, they will be a great help for the first assessment session.
