Botox for wrinkles

Botox for wrinkles

Type A botulinum toxin treatment for expression lines: a medical assessment, dosing tailored to your muscles and a review at two weeks.

How it works

Type A botulinum toxin temporarily relaxes the muscle it's injected into. As that repeated contraction eases, the skin stops folding and expression lines soften. It works on dynamic lines — the ones that appear when you make an expression; on lines already set at rest the effect is partial, and it's sometimes worth combining it with other treatments.

Common areas

  • Frown lines.
  • Crow's feet.
  • Forehead lines.
  • Other aesthetic and medical uses assessed case by case, such as excessive underarm sweating or bruxism.

Natural isn't an accident

The result depends on where it's injected and how much: that's why two treatments with the same product can give very different faces. The prior consultation studies your muscles and your expressions, and the dose is decided from there. The goal we're after is that you keep expressing what you feel, just with less of a mark.

Before and after

  • The effect isn't immediate: it starts within three or four days and is complete within two weeks, when the follow-up review is done and touched up if needed.
  • It lasts on average between three and six months; after that the muscle regains its activity.
  • In the first few hours it's best not to lie down, do intense exercise or massage the area.
  • It isn't given during pregnancy, breastfeeding or with certain neuromuscular conditions; this is checked at the prior consultation.

Frequently asked questions

When does the effect show and how long does it last?

It is not immediate: it begins after three or four days and is complete in about two weeks, when the review takes place and it is touched up if needed. It lasts between three and six months on average, and after that the muscle gradually regains its activity.

Will my face end up looking frozen?

That depends on where it is injected and how much, not on the product. Your musculature and your expression are studied in order to adjust the dose, aiming for you to keep expressing what you feel with less marking. A natural result is no accident: it is a matter of dosage and judgement.

What should I avoid after the treatment?

For the first few hours it is best not to lie down, not to do intense exercise and not to massage the area. It is not used in pregnancy, breastfeeding or in certain neuromuscular diseases, and that is why your history is reviewed at the prior consultation.

What are the negative effects of Botox?

The most common are a small bruise or a mild headache on the first day. Unwanted effects —a slightly drooping eyebrow or asymmetry— depend on the technique and are temporary, because the product is reabsorbed. It is not used during pregnancy, breastfeeding or with certain neuromuscular diseases.

What is the best age to have Botox?

There is no set age: there is a right moment, which is when the expression line starts to show at rest as well. Having it very early without an indication prevents nothing, and having it late does not erase a line that is already established, although it does soften it. We assess your expression and decide together.
