Digital dentistry: intraoral scanning, digital X-rays and 3D

Intraoral scanning instead of moulds, digital X-rays and 3D planning: what digital dentistry is and what it changes for the patient.

Digital dentistry replaces much of the traditional moulds, film X-rays and manual planning with digital tools. It does not change what the dentist decides, but it gives more accurate information to diagnose, plan and carry out treatment, and it makes the visit more comfortable for the patient.

What tools it uses

  • Intraoral scanner. A camera moves around the mouth and creates a 3D model of the teeth and gums. It replaces impression paste, which many patients find uncomfortable.
  • Digital X-rays. Images appear instantly on screen and can be enlarged to spot problems in more detail.
  • 3D models and planning software. The digital model is used to design treatment to measure and to show the patient the expected result before starting.

Benefits for the patient

  • More accurate diagnosis, thanks to higher-quality images.
  • Treatment planned to measure from a 3D model of your mouth.
  • Fewer visits for many treatments, because the work is prepared more precisely from the start.
  • More comfort: no paste moulds.

These tools are used in treatments such as invisible orthodontics, prosthetics and implants. You can book an appointment at the clinic nearest to you.
